My guiding principal as a furniture maker has always been to make objects that are both useful and beautiful. Being that my primary medium is wood, I employ traditional methods of work that have been in use across many cultures for hundreds of years. My intent is to create works that will last well beyond my lifetime. When I first started in 1974, I was inspired by the work of Charles and Ray Eames, George Nakashima, Sam Maloof, Gerald McCabe, and James Krenov. Though I never got to meet Nakashima nor the Eameses, I was fortunate to have met Maloof, McCabe, and Krenov before they died.
